In the land of Tanukis is a film which traces the creation of four ceramic sculptures which Sabine Lalande made at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park in Japan.

The form of these pieces was inspired by the places the artist had visited on her first stay in Kyoto as well as near Lake Biwa in Shiga prefercture; a region of stoneware pottery production where, among other ceramic artifacts, tanuki figures are made. The tanuki, a mythical animal symbolising conviviality, which adorns entrances and small altars in Japan.

The film sets out to show each stage of the creation, from the initial modeling to the last firing decoration as well as seeking to share the sensations wich the artist experienced in contact with the materials, colours and motifs encountered during her stay.
